Wash Day

(1) Pre-poo with Dabur Vatika Coconut Oil for 2-3 hours
(2) Shampoo with Organix Nourishing Coconut Milk Shampoo
(3) Deep conditioned with ORS Replenishing Pak for 3+ hours
(4) Applied leaves ins (Chi Keratin Mist, Cantu Shea Butter Grow Strong Strengthening Treatment, Cant Shea Butter Leave-in Conditioning Repair Cream [old formula]) and air dried my hair.
(5) Applied oil mix (Grapeseed Oil, JBCO, Olive Oil, Tea Tree Oil) to scalp and massaged in.
(6) Sealed length of hair with Grapeseed Oil and air dried my hair.

My usual wash days are Sundays, but my scalp has been incredibly itchy and feeling weird, so I felt a wash was necessary.  It’s been getting really hot around here, so I decided to give my hair a nice moisture boost with a pre-poo.

I ‘m loving my new shampoo, and will be doing a review soon, so keep an eye out for it.

I mix my deep conditioner with various oils and things, depending on what I have laying around.  This time I used grapeseed oil, JBCO, olive oil, tea tree oil, Roux Porosity Control, and I used up the last of my carrot oil.  It made my hair feel extremely soft and moisturized, and I kept running my hands trough my hair like crazy.

My deep conditioning actually lasted a lot longer than I originally planned.  I fell asleep after an hour, and totally forgot about it.  Oh well.  It’s hot enough here that I don’t feel bad about not using heat while I deep condition.  The natural heat was hot enough that I was sweating from doing nothing inside.  I was happy for my hair, but hated it in general.  The heat makes me sleepy and lazy, hence the long nap.

My hair has been drying so much better now that I’ve had a trim.  I think I cut off most of my over processed hair from last year, so now it dries evenly and my cuticle lays down much smoother.  I love it, and it’s making air drying a much more enjoyable experience.

I just purchased the grapeseed oil last week and as you can see, I’ve been trying it out all over the place.  I wanted to pick up avocado oil, but it was $10 more for the same size as the grapeseed oil.  I grabbed the cheaper one instead.  I’ll do a post talking about the benefits of this oil, too, and the ways I enjoy using it for my hair.

First Official Rollerset(Jan. 21)

I have been slacking on rollersetting, but with good reason. I left my rollers at home and I don’t have a dryer. Lucky for me, a girl who lives on my floor has both and was happy to loan them to me for the day.

Second roller set of ECPrincess’ roller setting challenge*

I deep conditioned overnight with a mixture of ORS Replenishing Pak, Tresemme Luxurious Moisture Conditioner, vegetable glycerin, jojoba oil, castor oil, EVOO, and vitamin E oil, shampooed with Neutrogena Triple Moisture Cream Lather Shampoo, then did a quick condition in the shower with a mix of Tresemme Luxurious Moisture Conditioner and vegetable glycerin . When setting my hair I applied Aphogee Green Tea Restructurizer, Cantu Shea Butter Leave-in, and sealed with Garnier Fructis Sleek and Shine serum and a few drops of Jojoba oil.

It took me about an hour to rollerset. I did it in four sections instead of the mohawk fashion because the size of the rollers I used were pretty small. It was actually all pretty messy, and i missed a couple of hair strands here and there. also, some of the sections weren’t as tight as I wanted them to be, but it’s only my first time.

First crappy rollerset

I sat under the dry for about an hour on high, but got tired and decided to take a break. I ended up taking a nap (face down so the rollers were safe), for about an hour, and when I woke up they were dry. I went under the dryer again for ten more minutes just to make sure, then proceeded to take the rollers out. The curls were very small and pronounced, since the set was a small one. I really need to invest in bigger ones, since I’m not a fan of the tight curl look. They were also a little hard, but I think that was because of the protein that I added (the cantu shea butter and the aphogee green tea restructurizer). Next time I’ll settle for just the Cantu Shea Butter Leave-in and see how that goes. I brushed them out and put my hair into a ponytail, which made a cute style, I think.

I do enjoy that my ends came out very smooth, which is a huge improvement from my last two tries. I have to attribute this to the advice I got from ECPrincess about keeping my hair wet. Also, my new growth is a lot more stretched than usual, which will be great and easier to handle during the week.

Semi-stretched new growth

All in all, the rollerset was ok, but I can’t wait to continue gaining experience and perfecting my rollersetting ability.

Wash Day + Rollerset 1

My Wash Day: (1) I decided randomly to do a semi hot oil treatment.  I used a mixture of castor oil, jojoba oil, coconut oil, and olive oil to my scalp and new growth only, and massaged it in in.  I then put it in a loose bun, put a plastic cap on, and wrapped my satin cap around that overnight. (2) The next morning I deep conditioned with a mix of ORS Replenishing Pak, jojoba oil, castor oil, coconut oil, and vegetable glycerin for 2.5 hours.  I wanted to do this under a dryer for 1 hour, but my dryer is broken.  So now I’m on the market for a new dryer.  (3) Shampooed with Silk Elements Luxury Moisturizing Shampoo.  (4) Applied Aussie 3 Minute Miracle for about 3-5 minutes. (5) Applied Roux Porosity Control for about 1 minute then rinsed.

I decided to practice a rollerset before the challenge began. I also needed a starting photo for the challenge, so I figured I would kill two birds with one stone.

Results:  The overnight hot oil treatment made it a lot easier to detangle my hair before I deep conditioned.  Deep conditioning went smoothly, though I kinda lost track of the time as I was doing it.  I also forgot how much I loved the smell of ORS Replenishing Pak.  After I rinsed out the deep conditioner my hair had so much slip, it was amazing.  The Silk Elements shampoo is ok.  It’s not my favorite, but I couldn’t find my Neutrogena Cream Lather, so I had to settle.  The Aussie 3 Minute Miracle did not impress me at all.  My hair has definitely felt a lot more moisturized with different conditioners.  I’ll post a review later, after I’ve used it a few more times, but right now it’s not looking too good.  The Roux Porosity Control I have mixed feelings for.  I didn’t see any difference in the porosity of my hair, but I’m pretty sure I left it on a minute too long.  Next time I’ll keep it in for much shorter and see how that goes.  I tried out the Silken Child Detangler, too.  The first thing I noticed was the smell.  I hated it.  It smelled like fake grape flavor,, which I dislike immensely.  I think your like of the smell depends on your preference, though.  I got used to it eventually, and it was really good at detangling.  I need so much more practice in rollersetting.  I’m so rusty at it.  By the time I sat down to start rolling, my hair was 50% dry, so I had to re-wet it multiple times.  I also realized I need new rollers.  the ones I have now have those small spikes/ridges on them, and I’m scared there just going to break/damage my hair more.   I’ll have to stop by Target and pick some up soon.  The rollerset itself came out horrible.  It took forever to dry without a dryer, and as it was drying I could see it becoming frizzy.  I took it out after 5 hours, and it was still slightly wet.  When I took them out, my hair was just a fluffy mess.  I’m going to rollerset every other week, and hopefully I get better at it.
