Wash Day + Rollerset 1

My Wash Day: (1) I decided randomly to do a semi hot oil treatment.  I used a mixture of castor oil, jojoba oil, coconut oil, and olive oil to my scalp and new growth only, and massaged it in in.  I then put it in a loose bun, put a plastic cap on, and wrapped my satin cap around that overnight. (2) The next morning I deep conditioned with a mix of ORS Replenishing Pak, jojoba oil, castor oil, coconut oil, and vegetable glycerin for 2.5 hours.  I wanted to do this under a dryer for 1 hour, but my dryer is broken.  So now I’m on the market for a new dryer.  (3) Shampooed with Silk Elements Luxury Moisturizing Shampoo.  (4) Applied Aussie 3 Minute Miracle for about 3-5 minutes. (5) Applied Roux Porosity Control for about 1 minute then rinsed.

I decided to practice a rollerset before the challenge began. I also needed a starting photo for the challenge, so I figured I would kill two birds with one stone.

Results:  The overnight hot oil treatment made it a lot easier to detangle my hair before I deep conditioned.  Deep conditioning went smoothly, though I kinda lost track of the time as I was doing it.  I also forgot how much I loved the smell of ORS Replenishing Pak.  After I rinsed out the deep conditioner my hair had so much slip, it was amazing.  The Silk Elements shampoo is ok.  It’s not my favorite, but I couldn’t find my Neutrogena Cream Lather, so I had to settle.  The Aussie 3 Minute Miracle did not impress me at all.  My hair has definitely felt a lot more moisturized with different conditioners.  I’ll post a review later, after I’ve used it a few more times, but right now it’s not looking too good.  The Roux Porosity Control I have mixed feelings for.  I didn’t see any difference in the porosity of my hair, but I’m pretty sure I left it on a minute too long.  Next time I’ll keep it in for much shorter and see how that goes.  I tried out the Silken Child Detangler, too.  The first thing I noticed was the smell.  I hated it.  It smelled like fake grape flavor,, which I dislike immensely.  I think your like of the smell depends on your preference, though.  I got used to it eventually, and it was really good at detangling.  I need so much more practice in rollersetting.  I’m so rusty at it.  By the time I sat down to start rolling, my hair was 50% dry, so I had to re-wet it multiple times.  I also realized I need new rollers.  the ones I have now have those small spikes/ridges on them, and I’m scared there just going to break/damage my hair more.   I’ll have to stop by Target and pick some up soon.  The rollerset itself came out horrible.  It took forever to dry without a dryer, and as it was drying I could see it becoming frizzy.  I took it out after 5 hours, and it was still slightly wet.  When I took them out, my hair was just a fluffy mess.  I’m going to rollerset every other week, and hopefully I get better at it.

Hair Haul

I had a 20% off coupon from Sally’s that was going to expire soon, so I went there to grab a few things I’ve been eyeing and to see if there was anything I wanted to try out.  I also got a couple things from Wal-Mart, since I was heading to that side of town anyway.

ApHogee 2 Minute Reconstructor

I ran out of this the last time I came home and did my relaxer.  I just picked up a small bottle, since I only really use it during my relaxer process.  I find my hair doesn’t enjoy it at any other times,  it gets rough and hard to manage.

Silken Child Leave-In Detangler

I picked this up because I watched a youtube video and/or read a blog where someone talked about how it was comparable to the Mane and Tail Detangler, which I am almost out of.  I’ve seen a lot of mixed reviews for the Silken Child brand, and I wanted to check it out for myself.

Goody Satin Scrunchies

I picked these up because of the satin scrunchies.  I bun 99% of the time, and I really wanted something that would give a little extra protection against breakage.

Shower Comb

Sally’s was having a sale, so I picked this up on a whim.  I figured I’d keep one at home, and take one with me while I’m in college.

Roux Porosity Control

Ever Since I’ve been reading up on porous hair, I have been dying to get my hands on this.  I’m pretty sure I have very porous hair, and at first I was going to use an ACV rinse, but I always forget to pick up Apple Cider Vinegar when I go grocery shopping.  As soon as I saw this I snatched it up and now that I think about it, this will be easier to travel with and use while I’m away from home.

ORS Replenishing Pak

I ran out of this a long time ago, but I’ve been to lazy broke to pick some up.  I’ve been feeling iffy about the protein in my hair, though, so I decided to go back to using this as my weekly deep conditioner just so I can be sure that it’s getting some protein.

Satin Hair Cap

I actually grabbed the wrong thing, but I’ll live with it.  I wanted to get the satin scarf, the one you can actually wrap yourself, but I’ll just deal with the cap for now, I guess.

Metal Duckbill Clips

I want to try these out for wrapping/cross-wrapping my hair.  I have regular clips, but I find wrapping difficult with them, and have been bunning for sleep as an alternative.  I figure these will be especially good for when I start the rollersetting challenge.

Processing Caps

I actually had a huge package of these, but for the life of me, I have no idea where they ended up.  It’s only $2 for 30, so I picked some up.  Deep conditioning wasn’t the same without these.

Aussie 3 Minute Miracle

Another thing that I’ve seen people on hair forums rave about a lot.  I desperately needed a conditioner since I’m almost out and won’t be able to pick some up for a while, and decided I might as well give this a try while I can.  I’ve used the leave-in, which I loved, so I expect (hope) this turns out as well.

Argan Oil Intensive Conditioning Treatment

I grabbed the sample size because I didn’t want to invest in a regular size bottle without knowing how my hair would like this.  I have yet to hear bad reviews, so I’m expecting a lot from it.  Of course that means it can either live up to the high standards, or fall short of them.  (I’m hoping it lives up to them).

I will probably write reviews for some of these as I try them out.

Happy Hair Journeys,
Gemma ♥
